The Giver

Prompt: Does the title fit the story? Why or why not?

I think the title  of this story  fits the story.  One of the reasons I think this is because the community is giving all the things that are needed like their jobs and their children.  They say that they do all of this because it will keep the peace and keep balance in the community with them assigning everything to them.  Unlike our world where we get to pick almost everything that we do and work for.  One thing we can't choose though is the kind of kids we have.

Another reason the title fits the story is that The Giver is giving the good and bad memories to Jonas.  I think they have a "Receiver" to consult if things take a turn for the worst.  So they could keep history from repeating itself like war and hunger.  It also appears that Jonas is also a giver himself because he passed on a memorie to Gabriel.  I wonder if he can can give any person memories.

One more reason that the story fits the title is that Jonas Gives people a sort of relief to their problems.   An example of this is when Jonas helped his father and mother with taking care of their newchild.  When the baby was crying in his room, Jonas gave a memory to the crying baby and he stopped crying and went to sleep.  When he woke up the baby was crying again and Jonas gave him the rest of the memory.  When morning came his mother and father said that they felt better now that they got to have some sleep.  They decided that Gabe would sleep in Jonas's room from now on.

  1. Im pretty sure that they made the book called "The Giver" because that was what The Giver told Jonas to call him. With this post, you brought to my attention how there seems to be very little consumption within the community. The comunity provides everything and the most honorable job is to pass memories from one generation to the next, you can see what I mean. Very good job Nikolas!

  2. I never thought about the book being called "The Giver" because of the community providing all the things the citizens need to survive. I only thought about the book being named after The Giver. Your post got me thinking more in depth about the title. You have a good point. Great blog post.
